I have a lot of visual sources that I go to for inspiration and information, but one that sometimes slips my mind and allows me to rediscover it with much delight is the book Mrs. Hurst Dancing.
This collection of illustrations is just charming, and offers a really special look into the artist's everyday life. There are scenes of her outdoor and indoor escapades with friends and family, with wonderful little descriptions of the activities.
Paging through this book just really gets me in the mood for all things historical and makes me want to go back and meet the artist and her subjects. They seem so approachable and real!
I think what's so inspiring to me is that these are just normal people living their lives, not folks all dolled up for a portrait artist. That, in combination with the endearing style, is really my cup of tea!
